Hey guys!

As expected, this is my fourth blog entry for the “English Blog Creation Project.” Today was the day that the VS badminton team would be playing against Anglican High in the first round. Even though I was a substitute, I was still very nervous for our team as Anglican had imported a few China badminton players. (Uh-oh) Some of you know that I have been playing badminton for 4 years so you must be asking yourself,” Why should Joshua feel nervous? He is quite experienced, and he is not even playing!” A badminton player is supposed to be confident and aggressive on the court, not nervous. Well, to explain all this, we will have to take a blast to the past.

Going back to the years of my primary school, I was too in badminton. However, compared to Victoria School which I would say is quite strong in badminton, my school on the other hand was on a totally different league. So different, that the words to describe how horrible the standard of badminton was in my primary school has not even been invented yet. Yes, it was that bad. Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a little too much. We were not THAT bad that we lost to every school we were faced with. We managed to beat a few schools. Anyway, before I go off-topic, since we were that bad, we did not have much chance to participate in competitions and hence, I am what I am today – inexperienced.

Back to the present. At least there were some ups to taking part in a competition; I got to leave class early! The whole canteen was just for the badminton team! There were no queues or nowhere to sit! After lunch, we got ready for the match. Just as we finished setting up the nets, the Anglican team arrived. Both of us we eager to win this match so as to kick off the competition with a good start. However, we knew that only one team could be the winner. We knew we could afford to lose this match, but we wanted to prove to ourselves that we could beat Anglican High.

LiHeng, my teammate was playing the first singles match. We wished him good luck as he stepped onto the court. He was up against a stronger opponent but he knew that he could beat him. It was a close fight but with sheer determination and strategy, he pulled through to win the first singles. Though we were elated, we knew that the fight wasn’t over till the fat lady sings. Next was the first doubles played by Eric and Dion, who were up against two giants. Eric and Dion kept attacking them, giving the opposing pair no chance to retaliate. They used the giants’ size against them and before we knew it, the game was over. Now it was all up to our second singles player, Lie Sen. Lie Sen made a few errors in the first set causing to lose the set. However, he knew that the fate of the team depended on him so, with renewed strength, he fought back and won the second set. He must have reached his limit as he was too tired to run for the shots that his opponent was giving him. Sadly, he lost the match. Lie Sen cast a weary glance to us as if to say sorry. Then, it was Gabriel’s and Wei Liang’s moment in the limelight. I would say Gabriel’s specialty is smashing because he can smash the moment his is given the chance, at almost anywhere in the court, and I believe that that is what brought them to victory. When they won the last point, we went WILD! We piled onto the court and started cheering like crazy! Even our coach was screaming hysterically. We congratulated the Anglican team on giving their best, but as the saying goes, “may the best team win,” so it was natural that we won.

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post.

Joshua.

Hi again! Yours truly here.

This entry will be slightly different compared to the others. “Why?” you ask; well, it’s going to be much shorter and rather boring so please bear with me. I’m going to try and sum up what I did today without getting you bored.

The first thing I did today was go for catechism. Boring catechism. At least I had Dominic to keep me company. We listened to the teacher droning on and on about some mumbo-jumbo for an hour and a half. Can you imagine I have to suffer this torture every week!? Thank goodness my day improved after that. We went for lunch at a nearby food court. if you haven’t fallen asleep or closed this page, I guarantee you this will get slightly more interesting. That was when I received a text message from my friend inviting me over to his place to play for a while. Naturally I agreed and twenty minutes later, he and I had our eyes glued to the television screen, playing xbox 360. We were playing a first person shooter game called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” As one of the most critically acclaimed shooters of all time, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a prime example of a tough act to follow. Yet, amidst a raging storm of anticipation and expectation, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has done it. We were playing cooperative and had to complete several missions. Some were hard, some were long, but all were amazingly fun, and the best part is that I am really good! …at being bad, but I still enjoyed it. I dare say that it is a better game than Halo.Later that evening, I went to play billards with some friends. We had arranged to meet up every week to play billards. We had a great time and I can honestly say that I have improved quite abit.

Hope I haven’t put you to sleep. ;)

Sup Y’all! It’s me again!

Something really exciting happened to me today. I have quite a reputation of being the “unlucky one” in my family, but today, I proved them wrong. While shopping for clothes for Chinese New Year at Parkway Parade Shopping Centre, my family and I passed by a lucky draw booth near the information counter. By spending over a certain amount, we were entitled to six draws. I felt really guilty for spending so much money on clothes (the amount I cannot reveal for confidential reasons), so when I learnt about the lucky draw, I was extremely eager to win some money to recover the cost of my family’s shopping spree. To be fair, my sister, my mum and I each had two tries each. We had to enter a four-digit code into a safe box and try and try to open the safe.

My sister had the first go. Unfortunately, she failed both times. My mum too was unable to crack open the safe. When it was my turn, I was rather nervous. I know what you are thinking. Why be nervous over such a small matter, you’re making a mountain out of a mole hill. So I stepped up and keyed in a random number. It was denied by the safe. On my second and final try, I closed my eyes and randomly punched in some numbers. I didn’t even know which number I had keyed in. “Beep Beep Beep!” the alarm on the safe rang and the safe opened with a “swoosh”. I had hit the jackpot! The receptionist at the information counter handed me a 500 dollar voucher and I gladly accepted it. I was tremendously delighted. Not only did I pay for all the shopping bought today, but there was still some money left over. Maybe I could get myself another pair of jeans!

I hope that you have enjoyed reading this entry.

My First Official Blog Entry!

Hello people! Joshua here! This is my very first OFFICIAL blog entry.

Some of you might know, it is my sister’s 11th birthday today! My parents and I have been making many preparations for this day. This year, my sister decided not to have a birthday party so my parents decided to do something special for her and somehow, I got dragged into it.

When she woke up, I was asked to act normal,in my case, that means irritating her every second she is in my sight (which is something I would say I am exceptionally good at) and pretend that I have forgotten about her birthday. My sister noticed something was wrong as no one was wishing her a happy birthday. She tried hinting to my mum by saying,” Hey Mum, don’t you feel that today’s one of those special days?” Giving her a shrug and a puzzled look, she replied,” nope, why?” I could see the look of disbelieve on her face. I was about to burst into laughter and shout out,” fooled you!” On the other hand, i was wondering where Mum got her acting talent from. Her performance wasn't too shabby. My sister was thinking “How could parents forget their own daughter’s birthday!?” Well, it seems my parents could.

Anyway, when she left for tuition, she was quite angry that we had forgotten about her birthday. She kept giving us icy stares. I was starting to wonder if the surprise we were going to give her would cheer her up. When she was out of the house, we got busy. My mother went to collect the cake while I wrapped her presents. After class, while my sister was riding the lift up, she was sulking. Little did she know about the surprise that was awaiting her at home. The moment she opened the door, she was greeted by a joyous shout of, “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” I shot some confetti right at her face and blew a horn so loud she almost fell backwards. “Oops,” I said with a sly grin,” didn’t know you were standing so close.” (But of course you know that I was planning to do that anyway) My sister was too thrilled to get angry at me. “I thought all of you had forgotten about my birthday!” she cried. I couldn’t help say,” I did until Mum reminded me about it.”

That night, we had dinner at a fancy restaurant, of which the name I could not even pronounce. Before going to bed, I remembered to send my sister a text message reading,” Happy Birthday Popia!” "Popia" is my nickname for my sister because her real name is Sophia and it rhymes with Popia...I know! Thank you. I'm so mature.

I guess that that concludes my first blog entry. Thanks for reading!

Joshua, signing out. Peace
